POSTI DI VISTA 2010

[IN_EQUILIBRIO]

A.I.A.C.E. – Milano has as a mission  both the production and the promotion of artistic works based on new technologies use and youngsters education.
Thanks to a fruitful cooperation between IED, Istituto Europeo del Design and A.I.A.C.E.-Milano, three video-installation especially conceived by IED students will be presented at the Fabbrica del Vapore during Posti di Vista 2010.
IED director, Rossella Bertolazzi, decided to assign to four teachers (Tiziana Gemin, Painè Quadrelli, Davide Sgalippa and Paolo Solcia), professionals in different multimedia fields (IT, music, audiovisual production), the task to follow their students while creating video-installations on the topic of “sustainable design”.
During the first semester 20 students have applied themselves in order to create their first interactive works.
The installations, which match the opportunities offered by new technologies to narration in order to create new forms of interactive expression, allow the audience to think about the issues proposed exploiting their recreational and entertainment features.
After two months the students have presented the results of their research to a selection committee made of A.I.A.C.E. and IED representatives. Among the six installations proposed three of them have been selected for the event: “Watery Duo - waw-tuh-ree-doo-oh”, “Indovina la Ricetta – Guess the Recipe” and “Sink Pink”.

Watery Duo - waw-tuh-ree-doo-oh

Water is the most precious resource for men. To preserve it, the students have decided to approach the topic in a very simple and practical, but in the meantime highly technological way. They created two water musical instruments: two harps.
The harps cords are made of water, therefore every time the users touch the cords they can compose celestial melodies in Sol b. Thanks to solar energy pumps which recycle the water flowing into lower containers, the installations works in a loop, not wasting water in the process.

Indovina la Ricetta – Guess the Recipe

Analyzing three recipes of the Italian culinary tradition you can discover that the ingredients used to cook the dishes travel thousands of kilometres before getting to our tables. This incident doesn’t affect their taste or colour but it implies an exaggerated and pointless environmental use. The users will be asked to assemble the recipes choosing the ingredients, putting them in a pot and following on a screen the route from the production place to the destination on our tables.

Sink Pink

The interactive installation is made of a videocamera connected to a screen which works as a virtual mirror. When the user opens a tap, the water flows away; the face portrayed in the upper screen, deprived of its main vital element, dehydrates gradually. In the meantime, in a lower screen appear informative videos which explain the consequences of water waste. When the user closes the tap, gradually the water flows back to the upper screen. Users’ choices affect the followers’ action to symbolize that our behaviour concerning eco-sustainability affects other’s people life.
