INVIDEO – 27th International Exhibition of Video and Cinema Beyond

16th - 19th November 2017

Milan, Italy

ORIGINS

ORIGINS: a word that is fascinating and, in many aspects, mysterious. Evocative. The title of this 27th edition of INVIDEO comes, as always, from the works themselves. This year the common thread running through them seemed to evoke to us sources, births and roots, all in different ways. The cosmos, the very origins of video art, to which some works seem to return to once again find a radical and pure creativity; archives to be interrogated; the universe; personal roots; the beginnings of passionate stories,of events that deserve being told – but also the primary forms, the memory, the abstractions underlying important stylistic research. It is an edition that speaks to us of new paths of audiovisual creation, between birth and developments.

As well as the works of the INTERNATIONAL SELECTION, the meetings and the events: the common thread running through these also comes face to face with the origins: in a dialogue between generations, proposed by the independent filmmaker Giuseppe Baresi; in the performance of analogue resistance of the UNZA collective, a reference to underground cinema; in the movies of Antoni Pinent, but also in the narrations that illuminate families, memories and stories, as in the works presented
by Fabiana Sargentini and Caterina Klusemann. There are also important references to the historic avant-gardes, to animation, to forms, in different ways, in the retrospectives of Igor Imhoff and Virgilio Villoresi. The tribute to the “Cartaviglie” of Gianni Toti, ten years after his death, also proposes a dialogue between paper and augmented reality, the past and the latest technologies.

As always, INVIDEO looks at the world not only in the international selection of the works, but also with special “focuses” on festivals and productions. This year, the Festival of Kuala Lumpur with experimental works from a number of Asian countries presented by Fabrizio Gilardino, and a look at recent German production.
Images, voices, suggestions and presences. Days full of initiatives, including in education and training, of discoveries and surprises, reflections and projects. Between origins and the future.

As every year IED will host three free masterclass : Scolpire la Luce/Cinema senza cinepresa by Antoni Pinent, Paesaggi immaginari. Organizzare suoni e visioni by Matias Guerra and Alternative animate, o una via alternativa all’animazione by Igor Imhoff.

Moreover INVIDEO, in collaboration with UNZA presents the workshop Sculpting the light that introduces to the cinema without camera by Antoni Pinent. It will take place at 18th and 19th of November from 9 am to 4 pm @UNZALAB, via Passerini n 18, Milan. For info e and booking: unza.milano@gmail.com.

Finally, it is 10 years old for the Under 35 Prize, set up to support and promote the work of young authors through the purchase and insertion of winning works in the INVIDEO archive, to which all under 35 selected artists will compete.
