EVELIN STERMITZ: VIDEO ART AND WOMANWOMAN
Austrian Evelin Stermitz (1972) works with different media and languages, from photography to video, performance to the web. Her research centres on social-cultural topics with attention to gender issues and those of the female role and body, also as represented by the media. She studied Pedagogy and Communication Media at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria, specialized in Philosophy and studied Visual Communication and Design in Ljubljana with a thesis on the female body in the context of media arts. In 2003 she founded “Broccoli”, an art group for social art happenings involving the spectator in the artistic process, and “ArtFem TV” (Art and Feminism TV, http://www.artfem.tv/) in 2008. She curates exhibitions, initiatives and events, holds seminars and lectures; she has taken part in a long series of festivals and exhibitions in various countries throughout the world.
